When I review the behind-the-scenes traffic statistics on millions of articles that have produced millions of monthly page views in my article content lab...ONE thing is clear: All articles are not created equal even when everything about them is identical except for the TITLE.

The reason is probably not what you think.

If you've been schooled on traditional copywriting, you know that in the offline world, the headline determines as much as 95% of the success of the book or article. This statistic takes into consideration what makes the book title successful: Whether a human buys it or not.

Article Writing on the Internet is a whole different story because of the way your articles reach humans who have an interest in them.

MYTH: Most people will read your articles because they came to a website and started browsing just like they do if they were to have gone to a local book store to find a book of personal interest.

FACT: Wrong! Most people will search the Internet using one of the major search engines and they will be putting in between 1 to 5 keywords that are related to the topic of the article or information they are looking to locate. The search engines will then deliver results that best match the human's interest.

YOUR GOAL: To have your articles show up in the search engine results for the keywords and topics that are most related to the content of your article.

HOW?

You must embrace this TITLE creation & traffic-building truth:

The first 3-5 words of your TITLE determine the success of your article in terms of how much traffic your article will generate back to your website. Success can only be had when you create keyword rich titles for your articles that match the most commonly searched keywords for your topic.

How to determine which keywords are rich and the right ones to use for your article?

You'll need a keyword research tool. Some are free and some are fee-based. Overture.com has a popular keyword research tool that shows you the most common search results from the Yahoo search engines directory. If you want to see what's on "Google's Mind" you can try one of their current beta tools called "Google Suggest":

Whether you use a web-based keyword research tool or invest in one of the more advanced application level software keyword research tools, it's critical that you learn know how to do keyword research.

A "Good" vs. "Bad" TITLE Example:

Here is an example of the difference between a non-keyword rich TITLE vs. a very keyword rich TITLE that is proven to perform better in terms of traffic creation:

Bad TITLE Example:

"Top 9 Ways You Can Acquire Fractional Jet Ownership"

Excellent Keyword Rich Title Example:

Fractional Jet Ownership - 9 Strategies to Help You Acquire Your Private Jet

Why is it more effective?

Because it does not waste the first 3 words of the title with meaningless garbage words like "top" or the number "9" or "ways"...and gets right to the important words that might be found when someone is using a search engine to research a topic related to your article.

You'll also notice in my example that I included the word "Private" Jet. Why? Because my keyword research said that people who search for fractional jet also search for the word "private jet" and therefore I wanted to boost the chances that my title would be found by a larger number of potential visitors to the article.

Two recommendations on what NOT to do:

1) Don't include garbage characters in your TITLE such as quotes, tildes, asterisks or anything else that a search engines has to work hard to discard in order to understand the TITLE of your article.

2) Do not engage in any search engine spam technique by having keyword rich TITLES that have nothing to do with the topic of your article. You'll only be hurting yourself as the search engines already aggressively filter out bad behavior like this.

Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki: Why We Want You to be Rich (book review)

The rich may be different, but millionaires and billionaires are people, too. One of the more entertaining aspects of Why We Want You to be Rich: Two Men, One Message by Donald J. Trump and Robert T. Kiyosaki is the glimpse into the private lives and motivations of these two very wealthy men who are committed to teaching financial literacy to as many people as possible. Beyond the entertainment--and certainly more important--is the information and the primary message, which is that you need to take charge of your own financial future.

The book is divided into five parts. In the first, Trump and Kiyosaki explain how they met and decided to write the book. In the second, they explain their theories on investing and why investing to become rich is not risky but very predictable--if you know what you're doing.

Parts three and four are worth reading and rereading. In part three, Trump and Kiyosaki share defining moments in their lives. Each chapter asks a "what did you learn from ..." question, and both authors reveal significant insights into what has shaped them into the men they are today.

Responding to "What did you learn from your father?", Kiyosaki notes: "Our traditional education did not prepare us for the real world. It prepared us to be employees. ... Regardless of whether we are rich or poor, smart or not smart, the one common denominator we all have is that we use money." To the question "What did you learn from your mother?", Trump writes: "My mother's advice was simple but wise. It cuts to the core and keeps me focused and well-balanced. 'Trust in God and be true to yourself.' It doesn't get any better than that."

In part four, Trump and Kiyosaki offer advice for readers at all stages and situations. No, they don't explain step-by-step how to invest in a property or choose a stock; instead they show readers how to educate themselves and take control of their financial lives, regardless of where they are at the moment. They don't tell you what to do; they tell you how to figure out for yourself what is best for you.

Finally, in part five, they push to you develop a plan and take action. They write: "Ninety percent of the investing public wants to be given the magic formula, the answer that will make them rich. ... You will need to find your own magic formula."

The book concludes with both Trump and Kiyosaki urging you to do some serious and perhaps even painful self-evaluation. By itself, this book can't change your life--it's just words on paper. But it can guide you to the plan and tools to do it yourself.

Trump and Kiyosaki, along with their co-authors Meredith McIver and Sharon Lechter, have produced one of their best works with Why We Want You to be Rich: Two Men, One Message.

How to Create a Successful Book Marketing Campaign

Whether you are the author of a newly written book or the person in charge of increasing its sales, book marketing can be a challenge. Online self-publishing platforms have encouraged lots of people to write and publish books by themselves on a variety of subjects, and the Internet public is spoilt for choice. But the Internet as well is a great platform to empower your book marketing campaign, and help you reach people who would never have heard of your book otherwise.

Planning Your Book Marketing Campaign

It's better to start creating buzz about your new book even before you have it sent to the printers, as that will increase the chances of getting a good start with sales as soon as it's published. Most writers release teasers and free chapters as they write them, encouraging people to sign up on their websites for a newsletter announcing the launch. This creates a good deal of expectation and your readers will be hooked even before your book is finished. Getting a large number of sales on the first few days is important because it can get you added exposure by getting your book on Amazon's Best Sellers or Hot New Releases lists.

Negotiate Reviews Beforehand

One of the best ways of getting exposure for a new book is by getting reviews from relevant people. Getting your book reviewed on a popular ezine or by a relevant blogger can increase your sales and traffic to your website, but if you want that review to appear close to your release date you'll need to negotiate in advance, as both ezines and bloggers usually plan their writing well ahead of time, and have a limited amount of time to read books. While it's always good to have an option for people to request a review copy (and you should encourage your readers to write their reviews on Amazon, B&N and anywhere else your book is being sold), if you are really interested in a particular magazine covering your launch get in touch with them as soon as you have a date and see if they can review your book on time.

Embrace Social Media And Communities

One of the best ways of getting people to buy your book is by word of mouth. And you can use social media networks and user generated content to increase your sales, by encouraging people to write reviews about your book, post about it on Twitter and liking your author page on Facebook for exclusive goodies, such as sample chapters. If you have built buzz before the book launch and you interact regularly with your followers you can count on much better sales figures during the first weeks, as those people will be happy that finally the wait is over. If you are willing to manage them, creating a forum around your book where people can discuss plots and characters can also be a great way to create a community around your book, but it can be somehow hard for an author to read how some people don't really like your favourite character or find a plot weak. If you aren't sure about this point, get somebody else to manage the forums for you or stick to a Facebook page with less deep conversations.

Create A Book Website And Promote It

Many people turn to the Internet to read more about their favourite authors, check out sample chapters of their books before buying and read reviews. To make it easy for them you should create a book website that can act as a hub for everything related to your new book. You don't need to spend a lot of time or money on this, a suitable domain name and hosting and a low cost WordPress blog will be enough provided you fill the site with unique and interesting content that cannot be found anywhere else, such as sample chapters or author insights, and of course links to places where people can buy the book. Encourage people to write reviews and talk about the book on the book's website, sell the book yourself directly and announce there any book signing or event you will be speaking at.

50 Free Or Cheap Advertising Ideas For Offline and Online Marketing!

There are many ways to advertise without putting out a lot of cash. Use these tips to your advantage. Modify them and make them your own. Just remember that the only way to succeed with your business is to do something.

No one has ever found success by doing nothing.

Book Writing - Page Count and Chapter Length

Regardless of genre, there is no hard and fast rule about how many pages or words each chapter should contain or how many chapters should be in a book. However, there are some general guidelines in this article that may help you determine the page count and chapter length needed for your book.

Pages in a Chapter:

Many people read in spurts, at lunch time, or on the subway to work, readers enjoy chapters that can be finished in ten to fifteen minutes.

I try to set my chapter lengths by how long it takes me to read the material. If it goes past fifteen minutes, I may decide to divide a chapter in half and make two chapters out of it. Take into consideration that I write mostly non-fiction.

As you probably know, there's a difference in the way fiction and non-fiction are handled. In a fiction book, writers use shorter chapters. Some are only one page if that is all it takes to catch the reader up on the action of other characters in other scenes. When writing non-fiction, your chapter content needs to be specific to your chapter's heading or title.

Twenty pages per chapter is a good rule of thumb, but the most important thing is to include everything that relates to a particular topic in one chapter. For example, if your book is about fishing, you want to include the bulk of your information about fly casting in one chapter. All your info about bait and lure would be in another chapter.

Chapters/Pages in a Book:

These guidelines should give you a general idea of how to determine the length of your chapters and your book.

If your book is titled "The Accuracy of the US Census" you may have 52 chapters (one on each state). If your book is titled "Ten Tips for Marketing" you may have only ten chapters. There's no rule about how many chapters a book can or must have.

In order to be considered a book rather than a pamphlet or booklet, a book needs to be at least 10,000 words. If your book has more than 475 pages, you might want to consider producing it in two volumes.

Because you will submit your manuscript as an 8.5" x 11" word-processing document, you cannot be certain of its final length until after your publisher formats it for print. I have found that 250-300 words will approximate one page of 12-point font text in a standard size (5.5"x8" or 6"x9") perfect-bound book.

Book Title Ideas That Sell

A clever title is great if it is clear, but a clear title is always preferable. The best? A clear and clever title. A shorter title is better than a longer one. Your reader will spend only four seconds on the cover. While some long titles have succeeded, usually the shorter, the better.

A title is part of your book's front cover. Busy buyers including bookstore buyers, wholesalers, distributors and your audiences buy mainly because of the cover. Dan Poynter, author of Writing Nonfiction, says, "The package outside sells the product inside." Make your cover sizzle.

Start with a working title before you write your chapters. Include your topic, your subject and use the book's benefits in your sub title if possible. Here are your book title ideas that sell!

Book Title Ideas That Sell

1. Create impact for your title-check out magazine print and radio ad headlines.

Check out other authors' titles on the bookstore shelves. Your title must compel the reader to buy now. Which title grabs you? Elder Rage or Caregiving for Dad?

2. Include your solution in your title.

Does your title sell your solution? Make sure it answers the question rather than asks one. For instance, Got Minerals?, or Minerals: The Essential Link to Health. Use positive language instead of negative. For instance, Without Minerals You'll Die can be Minerals: The Essential Link to Health.

3. Make it easy for readers to buy.

Readers want a magic pill. They want to follow directions and enjoy the benefits the title promises. For example, 1001 Ways to Market Your Books by John Kremer gives at least 1001 ways for authors and publishers to market their books.

4. Expand your title to other books, products, seminars, and services.

Make sure that your title will work well with the title of your presentations, articles and press releases you'll need to promote the book. Such seminars and teleclasses titled "How to Write and Sell Your Book- Fast!" and "Seven Sure- Fire Ways to Publicize your Business" come under the umbrella "fast book writing, publishing and promoting."

5. Use original expressions--a way of expressing one idea for your book--yours alone.

6. Include benefits in your subtitle if your title doesn't have any.

Specific benefits invite sales. For instance, Marilyn and Tom Ross' Jump Start Your Book Sales: A Money-Making Guide for Authors, Independent Publishers and Small Presses.

7. Choose others' book covers in your field as models.

Go to your local bookstore with five-colored felt tips pens and paper. Browse the section your book would be shelved on. Choose five book titles and covers that attract you. Photo copy or sketch those, noting the colors, design, fonts, and sizes of fonts. Add other colors you like. Place the book cover you love near your workstation to inspire you. For the final copy, use professional cover designers if possible.

8. Be outrageous with your book title.

People do judge a book by its title. Your reader will spend only four seconds on the front cover and eight seconds on the back cover. It must be so outstanding and catchy that it compels the reader to either buy on the spot or look further to the back cover. Take a risk. Be a bit crazy, even outlandish.

9. Be your strongest salesperson self.

Choose the strongest words, benefits, and metaphors to move your audience to buy. Titles do sell books.

10. Include your audience in your title. This gives your book a slant.

When your title isn't targeted other famous authors' titles win out. Always make your title clear and make it easy for your audience to recognize they need your book. Your title and front cover is your book's number one sales tool. Short titles are best, say three to six words. How to Write Your First Ebook

Writing your first ebook may seem like a daunting task. But like many projects, it won't seem so bad when it's broken down into manageable chunks. Not all projects are successful, so don't be too disappointed if your first ebook isn't a best seller. Whatever the outcome of your first ebook, you can at least say 'You did it'.

Like many things in life, what often seems impossible can be attained with the right attitude and the right equipment. It could be a marathon run, climbing a mountain or finding parking space at the supermarket.

If you want to play golf, you will need clubs, balls and some practice. There's no guarantee you will become another Tiger Woods but you will become a golfer.

How to Write Your First Ebook

If you want to write an ebook, you will need a computer, software and some directions. Assuming you have a computer and software or access to them, here are some directions.

Establish Your Reasons

Your reasons for wanting to write an ebook will have a major impact on your success. It may be for financial gain, promoting a business, advancing your career, education, self satisfaction or something entirely different. Whatever your reasons, write them down. It will help to motivate you if the going gets tough.

Choose Your Subject

There are countless subjects that you can write about. It's wise to choose something you have an interest in or knowledge of. It is worthwhile spending time on this. The more you know about your subject, the easier it will be to write about.

Choose Your Title

After you've chosen your subject, you'll need a title for the ebook. It's worth writing down a few different ones before deciding on the one you'll use. This will help to keep your focus and may give you some other ideas. The title should give a clear indication of the content in your book. A catchy title may help to sell it, but remember to balance this with clarity to keep it in context. I've written down two examples. Feel free to use them if you have a sense of humor.

Choose Your Audience

The subject and style of your writing will determine your audience. Decide who your desired audience will be. Age, gender, culture, social background and education are factors you may want to consider. What you write should be targeted at your desired audience.

Write Your Thesis Statement

Although it's possible to write your ebook without a 'thesis statement', it is not recommended. If you are unfamiliar with this term, there are many sources available that will provide you with all the details you need. Unfortunately, there are some differences of opinion that may lead to confusion.

The 'thesis statement' deserves a separate article of its own but for now I have written a general definition of a thesis statement for ebooks. This may leave the door open for criticism but is a small price to pay if it removes some of the confusion. More importantly, it will give you a base on which to start. Only use it as a guideline. If you want a more specific definition, Google is a good place to start your search.

A thesis statement is a sentence or two written to clearly show the reason(s) for your ebook and what you expect to write about.

Although I have referred to this as a general definition, keep in mind that your actual statement should be as specific as possible.

Think of it as the foundation for your ebook. It should contain the following:

1) Your subject

2) Your opinion on the subject

3) A supporting reason for your opinion

4) The significance of 1), 2) and 3)

Create Your Document

Now that you have the foundation, you can begin writing.
A standard application like MS Word is a good choice.
While you are writing your document you can revise your thesis statement at any time up until it is published. This provides a good degree of flexibility.

Choose the format and layout of your document, including chapters, headings and introductions. Dependent on your subject, you may wish to add photographs, anecdotes or testimonials that keep the reader's attention.

Since an ebook is generally read from a screen, you may want to break up the text more than in a printed book. Experiment with a few different fonts and look at other ebooks for ideas you can use. Spell check and save your document regularly. MS Word has an auto recovery feature. This is useful if you don't save the document on a regular basis and later experience a system crash. Always backup your document. As a precaution you should also keep a copy on another media such as CD.

Choose Your eBook Format

This is a personal choice. You may decide to create an executable (.exe) file or a Portable Document Format (.pdf) file. By no means an exhaustive list, here are some points to consider before you choose.

EXE files are compiled using an ebook compiler

EXE files may offer features that are not available with PDFs

EXE files can only be read on a PC

EXE files don't require any other software to be read

EXE files are easy to open, easily branded, and good viral marketing tools

EXE files may be susceptible to viruses although some compilers offer virus protection

How To Write A Book And Get Published - What You Must Know

Want to write a book? You can. You start writing, and you keep going. At around 80,000 words, you've got yourself a book. Now what? You sell the book to a major publisher, hit the bestseller lists, and order your new cherry-red Ferrari.

That's how writing a book and getting published works. But if you try to follow that process - just sit down and start typing - the chances that you'll sell the book are slim. To sell your book you need to know the kind of book you're writing before you start, and also whether there's an audience for that kind of book. It sounds unfair, but in order to sell your book, you have to prove to the publisher that people will want to read it.

What Kind of Book are You Writing?

How To Write A Book And Get Published - What You Must Know

Most new authors start on their book writing and publishing adventure by reading a book and getting inspired. They don't think about the kind of book they're writing, or who would want to read it.

There are basically two kinds of books: truth and lies, otherwise known as nonfiction and fiction (novels). Some hundred thousand books are published in English each year, both nonfiction and novels. You must know what kind of book you're writing before you start.

Let's imagine that you've read a Harry Potter novel, and you're so enthusiastic that you're inspired to write your own children's novel. The words pour out of you; you're on fire. You write and write and write, and the pages pile up on your computer's hard drive.

This is great. While you're writing, ask yourself: "In a bookstore, where would this book of mine be shelved?"

If you're not sure, go to a bookstore and wander around the shelves. Is your book in the nonfiction section? In the children's section? In the romance novel or mystery section?

If you're inspired by Harry Potter, you know you're writing a children's novel. Imagine your book on the shelves, right beside the rows of Harry Potters.

This isn't an idle exercise, or a fantasy. You must know what you're writing, so please visit that bookstore. "What is it?" is the first thing an agent will want to know when you contact her to represent your book. It's also the first thing an editor at a publishing house will want to know.

So, what are you writing? If you don't know, or aren't sure, think about it and visit a bookstore if you need to. You can write a book and get published if you know what you're writing, and who will want to read it.

The Truth About Book Royalties

If you ask the average book author how they intend to make money from their book, most will tell you they expect it will come from royalties. In my 27 years of publishing and marketing, I found that few authors and even fewer would-be authors understand how book royalties actually work. I want to teach you the basics of that right now.

The sad truth is that royalties are significant only if you end up writing a blockbuster bestseller ... but extremely few authors ever do. In fact, the average first run on a book today is about 3,000 copies and most books never print a second run.

The average royalty paid by a traditional publisher to first-time authors is between 6 and 10% of net receipts. Net receipts means the price paid by the purchaser, but what that amounts to is often misunderstood by book authors.

The Truth About Book Royalties

For example, most authors who expect their earnings to come from royalties also expect to rely on commercial book trade distribution for their book. In other words, they expect to distribute their book through the network of wholesalers and bookstores. Here is how the math on net receipts actually works in that situation. This is the key to your royalties.

Assume your book retails for say , to make it easy. If the publisher wants the book to be distributed through commercial trade book distribution, using a network of wholesalers and bookstores, the publisher must give the wholesaler an average discount of 55%. That is  out of your 20, so the net receipt to the publisher is 20 minus 11 or . Now, let us assume the author gets 8% royalty, which actually is high for a first-time author. In this case, the author makes .72. The math on that is net receipts times 8% royalty which equals .72 on each book. That is it.

So if you wanted to earn say 0,000 a year from your book, at .72 royalty, you would need to sell more than 138,000 copies of your book each and every year, year after year after year. As I hope you can see, if you hope to rely on royalties alone, it is a very tough road to hoe.

I will share with you a little known publishing industry statistic that illustrates what I mean. Out of every 1,000 writers that contact literary agents to help them find a book publisher, only 10 end up with a publisher -- just 1%. Out of those 10 who do get published, only 1 of those writers ends up making any money from the published book. In other words, out of every 1,000 writers that contact literary agents, only one gets published and makes any real money from their book. The other 999 do not.

Why are those statistics so dismal? In part, it has to do with the fact that traditional publishing is a mature industry with a greatly increasing number of writers wanting to do business with a dramatically shrinking number of big publishers. But the main reason is because those writers do not know there are other big strategies to earn money with a book besides royalties. As the statistics illustrate, 999 times out of 1,000, it just does not work.

My friend Mark Victor Hansen likes to remind authors that writing your book is just 10% of the work. He emphasizes that the other 90% of the work is marketing of the book. Most authors never get this perspective from their publisher or anyone else. If the 999 out of a 1,000 writers knew and applied a few of the other time-tested strategies, most of them would probably succeed.
